How to Train Your Dragon

DreamWorks released this eye popping and adventurous movie today and I made it a point to see it the day it came out... and I did... and I must say, I was hoping for something as good as "Kung Fu Panda". Actually, I was just hoping for something better than "Monsters Vs Aliens", both of which are earlier DreamWorks animated films.

"Monsters Vs Aliens" was also a 3D movie and was not too impressive. "How to Train Your Dragon", also in 3D, on the other hand, was AMAZING. They really delivered. Good Job DreamWorks for pulling another masterpiece out from behind your back, or wherever you get them.

After seeing the movie, I read today's newspaper article about it. The newspaper compares parts of this movie to Avatar, and I completely understand why. The 3D really adds a sense of realism to the film. And no, not like dragons could actually exist. It's no secret that 3D movies add an amazing amount of depth to the picture. What doesn't help the 3D trend is when movies add cheap gimmicky effects that abuse the 3D. Avatar didn't do that and neither did "How to Train Your Dragon". The added realism that 3D offers comes in handy when your watching a completely computer generated movie.

DreamWorks is no stranger to CGI, and I believe that's something that puts them in the ranks with Pixar these days. "How to Train Your Dragon" definitely falls into the mix of my all time favorite cg movies. It's up there with "Kung Fu Panda" and just about every movie Pixar has created.

If you liked "Kung Fu Panda" and you are wondering about his movie... GO SEE IT. With the upcoming DreamWorks animated films on the horizon, such as Shrek 3... or 4... or whatever, and this dreadful looking one called "Mega Mind", "How to Train Your Dragon" might be your last decent DreamWorks animated film for some time.

We'll just pretend that "Monsters Vs Aliens" never happened. :)

also, on a side note, It's not that I HATED "Monsters Vs Aliens" or anything like that. I think I was just expecting "Kung Fu Panda" and got "Shrek 2" in return... :/
