C M Y K (5 second project)

It has come to my attention that not everyone knows what "C M Y K" is or stands for. It is Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black. The colors that Printers usually use when printing.

That was the project of the most recent 5 second project at greyscalegorilla.com, and here is my submission.

You can also see this at my VIMEO.com page HERE for a higher res version.

720p Version you can download.

Hard Days and Nights.

Monday and Tuesday I spent with cousin Chevis and her awesome Family. Her husband, Dan, and I finished ripping up and hauling away their driveway.

Day one, we packed up the first half of the driveway that Dan already tore apart. The second day we broke up the second half and hauled it all away. We brought it to a recycling center type place for concrete. We were told that we had to pay per metric ton but the lady, when we got there, kind laughed at us as we told her we drove the Tahoe over there. She said go ahead and just unload it as we wanted. Pretty awesome.

Yesterday, Wednesday, I was home for my dad's NEW LAWNMOWER to be delivered.

It's a Toro with a 360 degree turn radius. Pretty awesome as well.

And Finally, production is officially under way for my next 5 second project. The topic, "CMYK".

Here's a rough still.

I'll post the finished product by monday.

5 Second Project

Lately I've been working on another 5 second project animation. The theme, this time around, is "Nude No More"

I can't tell you much about it yet... aside from it has to be DONE tomorrow.

I'm going to do everything in my power to make that happen, but we'll see what really happens. I'm going to a bike race tomorrow in Stillwater with Zac, Ashley, and Derek... and their dog, Louie.

But here's a taste of what's to come of this project. Enjoy.

Nightly Brigade

Night One: Dan's House.

Dan invited a few friends over for a night of video games and poker while Chevis was out of town. These friends included Pierre (Awesome French guy), guess what he teaches, Shawn (idk how he spells it), teacher of Chemistry, Tim, I think he teaches something too but I forget at the moment, and myself... a bunch of teachers and a nerd, makes for an amusing night.

We started off playing the Wii, mostly Guitar Hero with two guitars, drums and Microphone. Then we moved to Texas Hold 'em. Dan ended up winning but the game went on until 3am or so. Which is right around when everyone else left and Dan and I went to bed, FUTON FTW! I was notified by Dan the next morning that Daniel had woken him up at 5am. And the little guy wasn't feeling well. :( How he didn't wake up during all the games we played is beyond me.

After Breakfast we hung out for a bit before I had to rush off to get ready for work... That's right, I said it... WORK...

Someone's got a job! Which Brings me to Night two...

-------------

Night Two: Animation with a Vengeance.

The second night of my newly acquired job in animation using Adobe After Effects. I worked one 3 hour night before from 7 to 10 and we went out for drinks after, by we I mean my boss, Michael, and Lloyd (a coworker from my last animation job).

ANYWAY, today/night was my first stretch of work that really didn't have an end in sight for some while. We are working on some videos for a church. Videos they can show to their young followers before they get confirmed. The videos are pretty straight forward. 2D animation with pre drawn figures.

Today I got in at 3pm, and tonight I got out at 1:10am. An hour in there for Dinner and BAM, you're workin' a full shift on a sunday night. Too bad I missed the Pro Bowl. :(

For the next week my hours look like this:

We'll see what happens for the week after that, It all depends on whether we pull in a few more hands to get the job done... get it? HA HA... it! (Harvey Birdman FTW!)

The Company I'm working at, by the way, is owned by Michael. It's called Dizilu. If I play my cards right I'll be the first full time employee...

Here's a few pics of this small but growing office:

In this picture my back is to the corner, there's a small space heater next to my right leg. A window on the right, doorway on the left, three computers and some chairs. Home away from home.... although I must say, the only real downside to this whole thing is that I work on a PC... >:( but "boo hoo" poor me... I'll get over it.

This picture is from the other side of this space. again I'm in the corner but to my left is the point of entrance. Next to that, also on the left, is a small refrigerator and sink. All this place is missing is a couch for nap time!

well, it's 2am and I'm beat...

OOP! Almost forgot! Picking up the Gretch Monster from the airport tomorrow night. She's coming in from Arizona.

"To the Bat-mo-bed Robin!"

It's a TRAP!

We're TRAPPED in the Phoenix Airport since our last plane had electrical glitches and took an hour longer to take off. The plane we were supposed to be on NOW left at 4:00pm, right about when we got into this airport. So they bumped us to a later flight and updated our tickets to FIRST CLASS :D but still :/ because we won't get in till close to midnight. Our new flight is at 7:50pm, so since we have time to kill, I figured I'd post about yesterday because I didn't have time to post yesterday.

so here goes.

Yesterday was the museum day. King Tutankamun, or King Tut as he's more well known, was the exhibit. It was pretty cool I guess, I kinda wish they would have had a bit more from his tomb but as I learned yesterday, his tomb had been robbed before, all the room except the one where his mummy was. Lots of interesting stuff which was pretty cool. Information about time back then and how the mummification process was done. Plenty more too, but it's been a day and how much do they really expect me to retain? Not really, I could go in depth about each thing at the exhibit but then that would take all night so I'll just cut the Tut stuff here.

Really the only thing that I was upset about was that I couldn't take pictures. They said that the Egyptian Government didn't want people taking pictures, but I didn't see any egyptian government people there. :/

Well after that we ate at this AWESOME little place called Pacific Catch: Fresh Fish Grill. It was awesome. I ordered an Unagi Wasabi Bowl. Pretty much a huge piece of Unagi (BBQ Eel) with "wakame salad, avocado, daikon sprouts, cucumber, ginger, sesame seeds, shredded nori and soy-wasabi sauce served over sushi rice".... Just awesome. I also ordered a spicy tuna roll, it was different than most because the fish wasn't shredded and mixed with the spicy mayo, it was in chunks, each piece had a huge chunk of tuna in it. SO AWESOME!

This place was located at:
1200 9th Avenue at Lincoln
Across from Golden Gate Park
San Francisco, CA 94122

If you're in the area, check it out. By far the best place we ate at this entire trip.

After that we went back to the hotel to drop off my mom's co-workers so they could catch their plane. Then my mom and I went to the Cartoon Art Museum (http://cartoonart.org/). As upset I was that I couldn't take pictures at the Tut exhibit, I was 30,000 time more pissed that I couldn't take them here. There were ALL sorts of cartoon art. Still from Samurai Jack, Still from Samurai Champloo, Stills from Gundom wing, these were all in the current exhibit, "Drawing the Sword". They also had an exhibit of "Webcomic Monsters", that was pretty cool too. One other thing they had was some of the figures from "Fantastic Mr. Fox" and that was really cool seeing how big they were. As much as I would have normally just said "F**K IT" and whipped out my camera to take pics, I really respected this place and their collection of art enough not to. I HAVE to go back there at some point, and if i would have taken pics i would have probably been fine never going back.

They also had a video playing, "Pixar Before They Were Stars". It featured a bunch of old animations done by Pete Docter, who directed "Monsters, Inc." and "Up", and was a writer on "Toy Story", "Toy Story 2", "Monsters, Inc.", "Wall•E" and "Up". They also had a bunch of videos by other people but his were some of the most notable.

This place's gift shop had just about everything that I was interested in, aside from dunnys. They had all the Miyazaki movies and their "The Art Of..." books. It was pretty coo, everything was overpriced so I didn't buy anything, but it was pretty cool.

AFTER THAT (this was a long day) we went back to the museum where the Tut exhibit was and we went to the Japanese Tea Garden next-door to it. THAT I have pictures of...

This is one of the first shots I took in the garden. and probably one of the best ones.

This was one of those AWESOME bridges that I've only seen in illustrations and old Japanese art. But we actually got to climb it. It was raining out and cold so... kinda slippery.

here's a pic of my parents trying to get off of it without falling. MAN that thing was steep.

And finally, the guy in the gift shop. He saw me admiring the swords they had on the wall so he took it down and showed it to me. He acted as if he were a samurai showing me his blade, but he was hilarious about it. He held it to his side really tight and puffed out his chest. Then he said it was fake because it wasn't sharpened. He also said that it was a very low price at $245. 0_0

In China Town they were selling sets of these swords for as low as $40-$50 for a long one, a short one and the stand.

After the Tea Garden, we drove to Pier 39. Nothing to brag about in my opinion. Lots of stores :/ but those are everywhere. We ate at a little pizza joint that wasn't very good and it was, you guessed it, raining, so it was a pain in the ass.

Now time to think about grabbing food before I get on the plane... although I think with our FIRST CLASS tickets we get a meal :) but we'll see...

Anyway, this probably concludes my posting of California 2010, unless I post more pictures once I go threw them at home.

P.S... Chevis and Dan, I can't get this out of my head. When we were at your place last, for Daniel's birthday party, Tammy and Dean were leaving and you asked Daniel if he said goodbye to Tammy and Dean... I think what you said was, "Daniel, aren't you going to come say goodbye to Tammy and Dean?" To which he replied in a almost british voice, "But I DID say goodbye to Tammy and Dean! GOODBYE Tammy... GOODBYE Dean..." I keep quoting that to my mom and she can't stop laughing. I love it.

Day three of the job

Third day of work and I'm already getting tired before 10:00pm... something is wrong with me. Who knew that sitting in a chair and animating on the computer could take so much out of you? Well, only one way to learn I guess.

But so far so good. Not sure on how secretive this place is with their animation so I won't post any shot's I've completed. But I have to say, once it's cleaned up in After Effects, The animations look pretty good.

The episode we're working on should air on the Larry Lipton Site mid January. Hope that's enough info for now.

Don't forget to keep an eye on the Winged Yeti Blog and Site. The site is getting Zero work on it right now because of the time spend on this job, but the blog gets a few new images now and again.

This Morning

So I'm bummed that I didn't get to go hunting with Tom. But on a lighter note. I received a phone call from a gentleman I met at a networking party at Robot Love. His name is Michael. He's working on an animation web series.

You can see the older episodes HERE.

Looks like I start Monday. 9am to 5pm. Forty hours Next week and then another 40 spread between the following two weeks. It's going to be fun. I'll technically be an Animator's Assistant. So learning the tricks of the trade from these guy will be a great experience for me.

On an unrelated note, I was informed about this new app for the iPhone (and probably iPod Touch). It records your voice and turns it into text. And it works REALLY well! Once it is text, it copies it for you and you can paste it into an eMail or text message or anything you want.
Here's a video of it!

Sorry if the video is backwards :/
but still... Awesome!
